Amstrad were one of the less likely candidates to manufacture games machines, but after the success of the Spectrum & Commodore machines they churned a couple out using Sinclairs' Z80 processor.  These were fairly capable machines but were let down by the lack of a TV modulator, this meant that many people purchased a green screen monitor, sacrificing the colour capabilities of the machine.  Clones of these machines were also manufactured by Schneider for the European market. After limited success Amstrad then went on to buy out Sinclair home computers & continue the much loved Spectrum series.
